Spot rates rise sharply as trucking market enters late December peak season

According to FTR, dry van rates saw their highest levels since January 2023. The firm noted that “A spot rate surge was inevitable in late December but typically not this early in the month. Still, variations in when holidays fall during the week can disrupt seasonal expectations, so any confirmation of a sustained market shift must wait until at least January.”

 

Truck Tonnage Nudges 0.2% Higher in November

“November’s tonnage reading continues to point to a constrained freight market despite the small sequential increase,” ATA Chief Economist Bob Costello said. “The index was also down from a year earlier, the second straight year-over-year decline.

Diesel and gas prices drop as holidays approach, easing costs for U.S. trucking fleets

As the holidays approach, diesel and gas prices continue to drop. The national average on-highway diesel price dropped 6 cents to $3.544, according to data released by the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) on December 23.
